An India-based biometrics company has released a new portable iris scanner that is available to anyone with a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer.
Headquartered in Surat India, Biomatiques is a privately held company that promises to deliver tailored products and services that exceed their clients' expectations by increasing their profitability and efficiency in the field of biometric identity solutions.
Nandan Nilekani, Infosys co-founder and face of UPA government's flagship Aadhaar program, resigned as chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Mr. Nilekani said he has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"Yes, I have resigned today," he told PTI.
After his exit as CEO of Bangalore headquartered Infosys in 2007, Mr. Nilekani had taken charge as head of UIDAI, mandated to give a billion Indians an identity card, a mammoth exercise that he had been successfully overseeing.
MUMBAI: In addition to other benefits linked to the Aadhar card, the government is considering linking a resident’s driving license as well. Currently, an Aadhar card (UID) is linked to benefits such as scholarships, pensions, LPG identification, and job cards.

Industry Minister, Narayan Rane announced that Aadhaar cards will not be made a mandatory document until every citizen from Maharashtra has received a card. Once every citizen has access to a card, it will become a mandatory identification card for receiving benefits from various government agencies.
